Perennial Varieties

While we try to carry all of the Perennials below our selection is subject to availability.

Perennials provide color for two seasons or more. Diversity of growth habit, cultural needs, blooming periods and flower styles make perennials the most accommodating class of plants for the home landscape. Cook's offers a wide variety of perennials which are hardy and conditioned for Utah's climate.

ACANTHUS (Bear's Breech)

Full sun to part sun. Height 3-5ft. Large glossy and deeply lobed leaves. Mauve-pink flowers. Blooms July/August. Winter mulch is recommended. Zone 6.

ACHILLEA (Yarrow)

These plants are good for a hot-dry climate. Can grow in your tough soil areas. Blooms in the summer. Make great cut or dried flowers. Very hardy. Likes dry, sunny sites.

This plant prefers moist cool spots. Has noticeable spikes in the summer. Can be used for cut flowers. The flowers on the spikes appear to be helmet shaped. All parts are poisonous. Zone 4.

ALCEA (Hollyhock)

'Chater's Double'

Colors come in scarlet, pink, white, and yellow. Flowers are fully double, with bright clear colors. Flower stalks grow 6-8ft tall.

ALCHEMILLA (Lady's Mantle)

Scalloped, cupped foliage holds a sparkling drop of rain water after a shower. Lime green flowers sprays are nice for cutting. Grows in sun, but will tolerate some shade. The attractive green foliage makes a great border.

ARTEMISIA (Wormwood, Sage)

Attractive in the rock garden, full sun or partial sun well drained soil. An attractive silver accent in the garden. Very drought tolerant plants.

Sun to part sun. Height 4-6ft. Does not have silver leaves. The flowers are white spikes of Astilbe like flowers on green foliage. Zone 4

Sun to part sun. Height 18-24". A compact cultivar which features stems and leaves that are silvery-white. The narrow lance-shaped leaves may be lobed near the tips. Zone 5.

Sun to part sun. Height 24-30". The silvery leaves are finely divided and feathery in appearance. Plants should be cut back to 6" in early spring to encourage fresh new growth. Very drought tolerant. Zone 5

ASTERS

Excellent plant for rock gardens or edging. Space 10-12" apart. Plant in sun or partial shade. An attractive fall daisy like flower, except Alpinus which blooms in the spring. There are a lot of new short varieties that out perform the old Asters that our parents had. All Asters are full sun to part sun. Most varieties bloom in August/September, but they can bloom as late as October.

CAMPANULA

A very popular perennial. A compact, free flowering plant for borders and gardens. Canterbury bells is a biennial and an excellent cut flower. All types need sun or partial shade. They come in all sizes from tall upright plants to creepers.

Very fine cut leaves. This plant has been mistaken to be a bleeding heart because of its close relation. A must try in your shady spots. Remember to put in cool shady spots with moist soil. Can go dormant with our hot temperatures in the summer.

An old fashioned shade plant that grows in full shade to partial shade. Bleeding hearts are known for its foliage and unique heart shaped flowers. A must to have in a shade garden.
